Frequently Asked Questions

picture of question marks

Q: Why should I hire an attorney?

A: Hiring an attorney is crucial for safeguarding your interests and rights in any legal matter. A knowledgeable and experienced attorney understands the complexities of the law and can effectively navigate procedural requirements within the necessary timelines. Without professional representation, you may face delays or complications that could impede your pursuit of justice. An attorney ensures that all legal aspects are properly addressed, providing you with the best possible chance for a favorable outcome.

Q: Will the judge help me if I choose not to hire an attorney?

A: If you choose to represent yourself in court (known as proceeding pro se), you will be held to the same legal standards as an attorney. The judge and court staff cannot provide legal advice or assist with the procedural aspects of your case. If you are unfamiliar with the laws, local rules, or relevant statutes, you may find it challenging to navigate the legal system effectively. Hiring an attorney ensures that you have the expertise needed to manage your case and protect your rights.

Q: What is the difference between hourly rates, flat fees, and contingency fees?

A: We offer different fee structures depending on the nature of your case:

Hourly Rates: Fees are based on the time the attorney and other team members spend working on your case, billed in tenths of an hour. This structure is commonly used in family law matters.

Flat Fees: A fixed amount is charged for handling your legal matter, regardless of the time spent. This type of fee is often used in estate planning matters.

Contingency Fees: Legal fees are contingent on the amount recovered in your case. If there is no recovery, you do not owe any fees. This arrangement is frequently used in personal injury cases.
